Dr. Stormy-Annika Mildner (M.Sc.) is the Executive Director of the Aspen Institute Germany in Berlin, a distinguished policy think tank dedicated to fostering transatlantic dialogue and addressing global challenges. She also serves as an adjunct lecturer at the Hertie School, where she teaches international political economy. From 2014 to 2021, Stormy Mildner led the Department of External Economic Policy at the Federation of German Industries (BDI), where she was responsible for international trade and investment policy. During this time, she served as Sherpa for the German Business7 (2015) and Business20 (2016–2017) during Germany’s G7 and G20 presidencies, playing a key role in shaping global business dialogues.
Prior to joining the BDI, she held senior positions at leading German policy institutions. She served on the Executive Board of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), directed the “Globalization and the World Economy” program at the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), and lectured at the John F. Kennedy Institute of Freie Universität Berlin. Her academic and policy work has been enriched by research fellowships at the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies and the Transatlantic Academy of the German Marshall Fund in Washington, D.C..
Stormy Mildner holds a Master of Science in International Political Economy from the London School of Economics and a Ph.D. in economics from Freie Universität Berlin. As a doctoral student, she was a Fox Fellow at the Yale Center for International and Area Studies (YCIAS) at Yale University.
She is a frequent commentator in German and international media and contributes regularly to policy journals, edited volumes, and publications by leading think tanks. Her recent work explores the future of the global trading system, strategic economic competition, and the role of values in transatlantic economic policy.

Von 2014 bis 2021 leitete sie die Abteilung Außenwirtschaftspolitik beim Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie (BDI). Dort verantwortete sie die Positionierung der deutschen Industrie zu internationalen Handels- und Investitionsthemen. In dieser Zeit war sie auch Sherpa der deutschen Wirtschaft für die G7- und G20-Dialogprozesse (Business7 2015, Business20 2016/2017) im Rahmen der deutschen G7- und G20-Präsidentschaften.
Zuvor war sie Mitglied im Vorstand der Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP), leitete das Programm „Globalisierung und Weltwirtschaft“ der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik (DGAP) und unterrichtete am John-F.-Kennedy-Institut der Freien Universität Berlin. Forschungsaufenthalte führten sie u. a. an das American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS) sowie an die Transatlantic Academy des German Marshall Fund in Washington, D.C.
