Professor John Deanfield, Professor of Cardiology at University College London, is a global leader in cardiovascular health and preventative medicine. His work has been pivotal in shifting the focus from treating established disease to preventing its onset.

His work has influenced policy decisions and helped set the stage for a new era of preventive medicine in the UK.

John was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to the prevention and treatment of heart disease in 2021.  He founded and directed the National Institute for Cardiovascular Outcomes Research (NICOR) and championed the use of real-world data for both quality improvement and large-scale clinical trials.

He is Chair of the International Scientific Committee at the new Springer Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Center, Berlin, and helped develop the UK’s Our Future Health programme, for which he is a Trustee.
