Nach einem weiteren Praxisjahr als Landwirt wechselte er nach Bonn, studierte dort Agrarwissenschaften \u2013 Fachrichtung Pflanzenproduktion und schloss am Bonner Pflanzenbauinstitut eine wissenschaftliche Untersuchung zum Thema Bodenbearbeitung rekultivierter B\u00f6den an. Diese Forschungsarbeit beendete er mit einer Dissertation. Von 1993 bis 1997 \u00fcbernahm er eine T\u00e4tigkeit im Bereich Bioabfallkompostierung in Brake\/Utw und wechselte 1998 zur Deutschen Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft (DLG e.V.) nach Frankfurt am Main. Dort startete er als Projektleiter Pflanzenbau und \u00fcbernahm parallel von 1998 bis 2008 die Gesch\u00e4ftsf\u00fchrung des Dachverbandes Agrarforschung e.V. Ab 2005 leitete er in der DLG das neugegr\u00fcndete Fachgebiet Nachhaltige Landwirtschaft. 2008 stieg er in die Gesch\u00e4ftsf\u00fchrung der DLG ein und leitete das DLG-Fachzentrum Landwirtschaft. 2015 wurde er zus\u00e4tzlich in den Vorstand der DLG berufen.
