Jetzt will man Deutschland im Sturm erobern.

ECE and MM talking with foodservice magazine about food markets, new countries, new concepts and the “new normal” after COVID-19

Mercato Metropolitano opens its first location in Germany at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. In London, the sustainable community market concept has been successful since 2016. Now the company wants to take Germany by storm. In addition to Andrea Rasca, founder and „chief executive dreamer“ of Mercato Metropolitano, ECE and Brookfield Properties are driving this future project forward. On two levels over an area of 4,400 square metres, Mercato Metropolitano will offer freshly prepared, traceable and artisan food from the best local and international producers.

As part of the complete repositioning of the arcades, a shopping centre with international high street flair is to be built by 2022, which will house around 90 shops and flagship stores of well-known brands from the technology, sports & entertainment, science & beauty, mobility & leisure and gastronomy sectors. The community market is the heart of the new concept.

Jonathan Doughty, Globald Head of Foodservice, Leisure and Placemaking at ECE, will present a view of how the world of retail was changing anyway, how this change has got faster and what changes we are now making in some of our estate to welcome the “new” types of tenants. We will discuss the changing uses, the growing diversity and some of the interesting ideas that are going to make the ECE spaces of tomorrow.
